‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Publishes Emotional Homage to Director Rob Reiner

The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the iconic rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles at the weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being held without bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan went on to write. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner via comments shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” it read. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s celebrated filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
