The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
