Following multiple episodes of suspense, plots and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling finale
Spoiler alert - This piece reveals details from Celebrity Traitors finale
Over the course of the show, audiences saw eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, only five remained: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the prize.
Soon, the field narrowed to just three: the final players.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a shocking outcome that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms immediately exploded with the news. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," wrote one user.
"There could not have been a better conclusion," stated another, while someone else called it "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot reaching £87,500.
The comedian's evolution from comic relief to cold-hearted killer was one of the standout highlights of the season.
But his win still left the nation in shock, according to entertainment reporters.
"The thought of him, of all people, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, the other contestants explained the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have appeared to breakfast in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," a player said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate a person so loveable?" asked a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his time on the program.
"I want to do it again... I doubt it would be successful again!"
Thursday evening's installment was lengthened to 70 minutes on television. There was a different start than typical episodes, as every celebrity were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
There was some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as the episode revisited key scenes from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us some of the most memorable lines.
"To be honest, I began this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've betrayed some really good friends under the bus, I've murdered beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm more deceptive and traitor than I believed."
Meanwhile, another contestant commented that being in the final was "way more stressful than competing with England", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
Early on of the finale, various contestants seemed to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the castle, taking over from an earlier departed fashionable contestant.
Carr emerged at breakfast resembling a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
But he was outstyled by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. What a look.
Next up was the competition, with the final players getting on board a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge saw them ripping up images of eliminated players. Spare a thought for one participant who was hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.
The deceivers did a pinky promise in advance, vowing to support each other. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," stated a player, while the other simply laughed.
And one adhered to their agreement. But, having slipped under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The remaining traitor looked like to be experiencing a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Online platforms and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against that player to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," said a commentator.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," posted another user.
But there was no time to focus on this departure. Before long, they were at the endgame - which was the moment everyone anticipated.
The final four stood over the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their partner, who betrayed them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back at the final moment like that," said the eliminated player. Later, it was revealed that when they message, the betrayed player calls their former ally as a traitor.
Ultimately, only three contestants remained in the game: the final trio.
One player, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and it all came down to the third, who did the same - which meant that the deceiver was the winner.
According to commentators, the moment where remaining contestants consoled the winner was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.
Happily, the winner quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and now I stand the champion," the winner said.
And he even made light of the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by leaning toward the host in the final scene and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and the occasional unexpected moments may seem like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did occur. And we will miss it.
